Çiğnemiyor / Does not chew

Neden bazı çocuklar çiğnemiyor? Çocuk neden çiğnemez de direkt yutar, yutamıyorsa öksürüp öğürüp kusar? Ne zaman çiğneyecek? Çocuk nasıl çiğnemeyi öğrenir?

Bazılarına göre sebep anne, kolaya kaçıp herşeyi blenderdan geçiriyor da çocuk o yüzden çiğnemeyi öğrenemiyor. Bazılarına göre ise çocuk çiğnemek için gerekli alt yapıdan yoksun ve çeşitli terapi yöntemleri ile bu sorunu gidermek gerekiyor. Bazılarına göre de kimin neden çiğnemediğini kimse bilmiyor.

Anne deniyor; cam rendeyi, sonrasında çocuğun eline birşeyler verip kemirmesini sağlamayı, blenderdan geçirmek yerine çatalla ezmeyi, sabırla katı gıdalara geçişte önerilere göre hareket ediyor... Çoğu zaman birçok çocukta bu yöntemler işe yarıyor ve çocuk beklenen gelişimsel adımları takip ediyor. Ama bazı çocuklar sürekli öksürüyor, öğürüyor, kusuyor, bırakın ısırmayı yiyecekleri eline bile almıyor, görmeye dayanamıyor adeta... Bu durum öğünler, günler, haftalar hatta aylar boyunca devam ediyor ve sonunda anne pes ediyor. Tamam blenderdan geçirelim, hatta o da kesmiyorsa ince süzgeçten geçeni yedirelim. Yeter ki artık kusmayalım, yeter ki kilo almaya başlayalım...

Tabi ki bilimsel gerçeklikler mevcut ama ben hayata dair birçok konuda salt doğrular olduğuna inanmıyorum artık. Eskiden, yani CANdan önce, herşeyin siyah beyaz olduğunu düşünen grilere inanmayan bir insandım. Çünkü grilerle başetmek zordu, siyah beyaz hayat daha kolay gelmişti herhalde bana. Ama artık her insanın kendi özelinde inandığı farklı doğrular olduğunu ve grilerin hayatta kapladığı alanın büyüklüğünü öğrendim, tabi CANdan sonra.

Yeni birşeyler denemekle geçti bunca zaman; hepsi mantıklı uzman görüşleriydi, bazı çocuklarda işe yaramışlardı... Şimdi yine yeni birşeyler deniyoruz. Eminim kendi doğrumuzu bulacağız ve bu durumu da aşacağız. Denemeye devam etmek ve aklı selimi de elden bırakmamak lazım. Yapacak başka birşey yok :)

Why doesn't some children chew? Why doesn't a child chew but swallow directly and cough, gag, vomit if can not swallow? When will the child chew? How does the child learn to chew?

Some say the reason is the mother, the child does not chew because the mother chooses the easy way and blends everything. Some say the child does not have the infrastructure for chewing and needs treatment with different therapy techniques to solve the problem. Some others say that nobody knows why some do not chew.

The mother tries; the glass grate, to give the child something to hold and bite, to mesh with a fork rather than to blend, acts according to suggestions while trying to switch to solid foods... Most of the time for most kids these advices hold and the child follows the expected developmental steps. But some children cough, gag, throw-up, let along biting they do not want to touch anything that has food indication, it seems they can not even bare to see it... This situation lasts for meals, days, weeks, even months and the mother gives up. OK we blend it, if that is not enough we feed what goes through the cullender. So that we do not gag anymore and start gaining some weight.

Clearly there are scientific facts, but I do not believe in absolute truths any more in a lot of areas in life. In the past, that is before CAN, I was a person who thought life was black and white disregarding greys. Because it was hard to handle the greys, I guess the black and white seemed easier to me. But now, that is after CAN of course, I know that each person has a special version of reality that (s)he believes in and the greys take up a big space in life.

All this time has passed trying something new; all were logical expert advice, they had worked for some children... Now again we are trying something new. I am sure we are going to find our reality and get over this case too. We should keep trying and do not let go of common sense. There is nothing else to do :)
