İlk Burger / First Burger

Artık CAN ince halkalar halinde kesilip ortadan ikiye bölünmüş tam bir muzu çatalla meyve salatası kıvamında yiyebiliyor.

I want to start this post with an anecdote from the NICU days...

Assistant: Doc I am explaining to the mother over and over again, but she does not understand. She still thinks that she will be eating an hamburger with this child in Burgerking.

For years these sentences have been a teaser amongst us. CAN's chewing problems have made this insight nearly a reality in the past years. While people talk about the harms of fastfood they tell me that in a way we are kind of lucky because we do not eat anything unhealthy and I repeat the same motto, "If CAN eats, I will not be against it, he can eat whatever he wants". This weekend CAN has added hamburgers after fries to his eating by chewing tryouts.

Now CAN can eat a whole banana sliced in thin half-circles by fork just like a fruit salad. Or a slice of roast cut down in cubes. He enjoys eating rice and bulgur by his fork. Cut down those sweet tomatoes in two and he eats those too. It is an unbelievable experience for us all for him to try out different things and ask for more if he likes it.

In the past I used to say, "this child will not survive, he will not be able to feed if left in nature". But now I can say "he can eat enough to survive, he will save himself". So happy for me, for us, for CAN's team, for CAN, so happy...
